On the morning of December 19, the World Conference on Innovation and Development in the Display Industry kicked off in Chengdu, themed "Displays Everywhere · Reflecting Countless Scenarios". Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, attended the opening ceremony. In recent years, we have thoroughly implemented the series of important instructions from General Secretary Xi Jinping on Sichuan's work and the deployment decisions of the Party Central Committee, concentrated on cultivating new quality productive forces as a focal point to solidly promote high-quality development, and in particular, actively embraced the opportunities in the new display industry, speeding up the establishment of industrial clusters that drive the high-quality development of the nation's new display industry. The development of the display industry is inextricably linked to the momentum provided by scientific and technological innovation and extensive international collaboration. We will seize the opportunity presented by this conference, earnestly implement the decisions and plans set at the Central Economic Work Conference, adhere to the principle of using scientific and technological innovation to lead the development of new quality productive forces, give full play to Sichuan's strengths, build more application scenarios, accelerate the iterative upgrading of display technologies, and promote the deep integration of new display technologies with artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and other fields. Xiong Jijun stated in his speech that in recent years, bolstered by robust national support and the collective endeavors of the entire sector, China's new display industry has continuously optimized its allocation of all factors, enhanced the level of international integration within the display industry chain and supply chain, and sustained a steady growth trajectory, having emerged as a major player in the global new display industry. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will thoroughly implement the decisions and plans of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, adhere to the principle of following policy guidance, leading with innovation, and fostering open collaboration, promote the coordinated and orderly development of the industry, enhance the industry's capability for scientific and technological innovation, and work to build a new pattern of win-win cooperation. The new display industry boasts an immensely promising prospect for development. Sichuan stands as a significant clustering area for China's new display industry. It is hoped that everyone will leverage the platform established by this conference, closely focus on the industry's cutting-edge developments and market applications, share technological advancements, discuss innovative development strategies together, and collectively propel the growth of the global new display industry.

Proactively capitalizing on our advantages in rich scientific and educational resources, a comprehensive industrial system, and vast market potential, Sichuan has initially built a complete industrial chain encompassing upstream raw materials, midstream display panels, and downstream display applications, thus establishing the province as a key base for the global new display industry. The new display industry boasts broad prospects for development. Sichuan will exert utmost efforts to promote the innovative development of the display industry, create a first-class business environment, consistently attract and cultivate innovative enterprises and research and development (R&D) teams, and vigorously enhance our R&D and innovation capabilities. John McLean OBE stated in his speech that it is an honor to have been invited to attend this conference. He expressed his delight in engaging with the participants to discuss the future of global display technology, share the UK's innovative advancements in display technology, and seek new opportunities for international cooperation and development. The UK boasts robust scientific research and industrial foundations in the realm of display technology innovation and has consistently been dedicated to enhancing exchanges and cooperation with international partners. Meanwhile, China holds a pivotal position in the global display industry. John McLean OBE said that they have a keen interest in China's innovative breakthroughs in this field and hope to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as ultra-high-definition displays and the development of new materials. Wang Fengchao, Mayor of Chengdu Municipal People's Government, presided over the opening ceremony. During the opening ceremony, Zhang Li, President of the China Center for Information Industry Development, released the High-Quality Development Index for China's New Display Industry (2024). Yan Qun, the incoming President of the Society for Information Display, announced the top ten innovative technologies (products) and top ten innovative applications of the conference. The event also featured the lighting ceremony for Chengdu Vistar Optoelectronics Co., Ltd's VSM mass production line and the signing of major projects. Peng Shou, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Gao Wenbao, President of BOE; Christopher S. Hudson, Global Vice President of Corning Incorporated; and Shinichi Yoshimura, R&D President of SMC Corporation, delivered keynote speeches.
