On December 31, the 2025 New Year gathering organized by the CPPCC Sichuan Provincial Committee was held in Chengdu. Provincial leaders, including Wang Xiaohui, Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of Sichuan Provincial People's Congress, Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, Tian Xiangli, Chairperson of the CPPCC Sichuan Provincial Committee, and Yu Lijun, Deputy Secretary and Head of the Organization Department of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, attended the gathering with representatives from various ethnic groups and all walks of life in the province to jointly celebrate the upcoming New Year of 2025.

Wang Xiaohui delivered an address at the gathering. On behalf of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Sichuan Province, he extended festive greetings and sincere blessings to all veteran leaders and comrades, to the non-CPC political parties, the Federation of Industry and Commerce, personages without party affiliation, and people's organizations, to the people of all ethnic groups across the province, to soldiers and officers of the troops stationed in Sichuan, members of the armed police, public security officers, as well as fire and rescue teams, to compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, to overseas Chinese, and to friends from all over the world who have long cared about and supported Sichuan's development, and to comrades from central units in Sichuan, enterprises, public institutions, and universities in Sichuan.

Wang Xiaohui pointed out that 2024 commemorates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, serves as a crucial year for realizing the goals and tasks of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), and is also a year marked by progress made amidst challenges and a determined drive to overcome them for Sichuan's development. Faced with the complex and severe situation of increased economic downturn pressure and mounting challenges, the provincial Party committee has thoroughly implemented the guiding principles from the 20th CPC National Congress and the second and third plenary sessions of the 20th Central Committee, fully executed the decisions and plans of the Party Central Committee and the gist of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on Sichuan's work, united and led the people of all ethnic groups in the province to overcome difficulties and forge ahead with practical efforts, achieved new progress in all aspects of work, and made solid strides toward building Sichuan into a modern socialist province in all respects. This year, we resolutely applied Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to guide our overall work, steadily promoted the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Circle, vigorously acted on the strategic vision of "synchronized development of new industrialization, information technology application, urbanization, and agricultural modernization, urban-rural integration, and common prosperity of five zones", went all out to boost the economy and advance construction, developed new quality productive forces in line with local conditions, unswervingly promoted high-quality development, continued to deepen reform and opening up, effectively ensured and improved people's wellbeing, made further advances in exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance, and pushed the various causes of governance in Sichuan to new heights. At the fundamental level, our achievements have been made possible by the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping, under the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the result of the unity and diligent efforts of the entire province. These achievements are also inseparable from the strong support and committed contributions from local CPPCC committees at all levels across the province, the non-CPC political parties, the Federation of Industry and Commerce, personages without party affiliation, as well as veteran leaders, retired comrades, and people from various sectors of society. Local CPPCC committees at all levels across the province and the CPPCC members have adhered to the two major themes of unity and democracy, performed their duties with dedication and diligence, and closely focused on the central tasks and overall situation to carry out investigation and research, offer suggestions on state affairs, and conduct democratic oversight. Their efforts have been highly effective and have made significant contributions to the economic and social development of the entire province.

Wang Xiaohui emphasized that 2025 marks the concluding year of the 14th Five-Year Plan and the start of preparations for the 15th Five-Year Plan; consequently, the work in the upcoming year will be of utmost importance. The Provincial Economic Work Conference has made plans and arrangements for next year's economic work. It aims to consolidate the positive momentum of economic recovery, ensure a successful conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and lay a solid foundation for a good start to the 15th Five-Year Plan. The province is determined to shoulder the significant responsibility of being a major economic province, thereby better serving the country's overall development. The path forward is not smooth, and translating blueprints to tangible outcomes is by no means an easy task. This endeavor necessitates the combined efforts and diligence of all across the province, as well as the continued robust support and active involvement of the CPPCC committees at all levels and the extensive CPPCC members. It is hoped that everyone will consistently carry forward the fine traditions, remain mindful of their political responsibilities, adhere to the integration of Party leadership, the united front, and consultative democracy, and actively participate in advancing Sichuan's modernization on the new journey of the new era, proactively offer suggestions on state affairs, and unite broadly to pool strengths, promising a new year of undertaking new responsibilities, achieving greater heights, and displaying a renewed spirit.

Wang Xiaohui pointed out that the veteran leaders and comrades have made indelible contributions to the reform and development of Sichuan, laying a solid foundation for today's achievements. It is hoped that while ensuring their wellbeing, veteran leaders and comrades will continue to leverage their political expertise, rich experience, and high prestige to provide valuable suggestions for the development of Sichuan, which will help us improve our work and further advance the various causes of governance in Sichuan.

Wang Xiaohui stressed that the road ahead is lengthy, but the moment has come to push forward resolutely. The entire province should stay closely rallied around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, prioritize practical action, forge ahead with determination, and strive to create a new chapter of Sichuan in advancing Chinese modernization, aiming to make new and greater contributions to building China into a great country and moving toward national rejuvenation on all fronts.

Tian Xiangli, while hosting the gathering, said that the address by the provincial Party Secretary Wang Xiaohui fully affirmed the contributions of the local CPPCC committees across the province in fulfilling their duties, expressed ardent expectations, and made explicit requirements, which have inspired a powerful momentum for unity and progress. We must adhere to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, fully implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important thoughts on strengthening and improving CPPCC work, deeply study and deliver the guiding principles from the Provincial Conference on CPPCC Work and Marking the 70th Anniversary of the CPPCC Sichuan Provincial Committee, carry forward our fine traditions, remain mindful of our political responsibilities, ensure the integration of Party leadership, the united front, and consultative democracy, give full play to the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative institution, and unite broadly in hearts, consensus, wisdom and strength so as to create a new chapter of Sichuan in advancing Chinese modernization.

At the gathering, Xie Shanghua, Chairperson of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association, spoke on behalf of the provincial committees of non-CPC political parties, the Provincial Federation of Industry and Commerce, and personages with no party affiliation.

Before the gathering's commencement, Wang Xiaohui, Shi Xiaolin, Tian Xiangli, Yu Lijun, and others met with the attendees from various sectors of society, shaking hands and exchanging warm greetings with everyone.
