On August 3, the TWG Village for the 12th edition of The World Games (TWG) 2025 opened. As the "home away from home" for athletes during the event, the TWG Village welcomed around 500 people on its opening day. Throughout the event, it will serve approximately 7,000 participants.
The TWG Village opened its doors to reporters on its first day of operation. The facility features converted existing hotel accommodations, dining services blending Chinese and Western cuisine, and diverse programs showcasing traditional Chinese culture. Every detail of the Village reflects the principle of organizing a "streamlined, safe, and splendid" event.
Well-Appointed Accommodations
Promises Exceptional Living Experience for Athletes
TWG Village consists of two zones: Zone A at Tianfu International Hotel Complex in Chengdu Eastern New Area and Zone B at Holiday Inn Century City in Chengdu High-tech Industrial Development Zone. Wang Sen, full-time Deputy Director of the TWG Village Department of the Executive Committee of TWG 2025 Chengdu, explained that both zones primarily utilize existing hotel facilities and operational teams to deliver all services, adhering to the "rent rather than buy, borrow rather than rent" principle.
"During the Games, the TWG Village will provide comprehensive support across 24 operational areas," said Wang Wei, Deputy Manager of Venue Operations in Zone A. "While optimizing and refining core functions like dining and accommodation, we've also incorporated diverse commercial forms and cultural exchange programs."
Inside the Chengdu Gifts store in the commercial leisure area, the reporter saw an array of panda-themed products, including tea sets, badges, stationery, and plush toys. The store also provides departure tax refund guides for international visitors with dedicated staff assistance, enabling "athlete-residents" to easily enjoy "refund-upon-purchase". At the participant service centre, the reporter noted the availability of diverse consultation and handling services, including transportation, insurance, and telecommunications.
Guillaume Felli, Deputy CEO of the International World Games Association, remarked after his recent tours of several rooms. From what he observed firsthand, he stated that the superb living environment here will provide athletes with an exceptional experience and help them achieve peak competitive performance. "I believe they will return home with wonderful memories of Chengdu and Sichuan, becoming ambassadors of Chinese and Sichuan culture," he said.
Cultural Events Series
Transforms Sports Celebration into Cultural Exchange Platform
During the event, the TWG Village will host a series of cultural activities themed "Distinctive Features ? Cultural Immersion ? Shared Beauty", aiming to boost the prosperity and development of sports culture, facilitate exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and enable participants to gain a deeper understanding and experience of the profoundness of Chinese culture.
Strolling through the TWG Village, the reporter observed the cultural interaction area where folding fans lay gracefully on display tables, emanating a strong classical Chinese aesthetic. Calligrapher and painter Yue Yinan, who was providing on-site guidance, explained that the six landscape paintings displayed in the exhibition area go beyond mere scenery depiction. Through thoughtful composition of elements like distant mountains, nearby waters, small bridges, and homesteads, these works offer international athletes a window into the profound allure of Chinese artistic tradition. The experience zone features tiered practice sessions accommodating 12 participants simultaneously, with two professional instructors providing live demonstrations and personalized guidance.
Stepping into the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Experience Hall, visitors are greeted by the soothing aroma of medicinal herbs that refreshes both mind and body. Staffed by an 11-member medical team, this space serves not only as a showcase of traditional Chinese medicine culture, but also as a dynamic interactive experience zone. The reporter observed wall displays brimming with jars of Chinese herbal medicines, each meticulously labeled with origin and therapeutic properties. The exhibition featured Tianhui medical slips, mortar bowls, and replicas of lacquered ear cups—artifacts testifying to TCM's millennia-old heritage. Illustrated panels vividly demonstrated the complete pharmaceutical process from brewing herbal decoctions to swinging pills, making pills, and preparing medicinal plasters. "Visitors can craft herbal sachets with their own hands or experience making traditional moxibustion hammers. These handmade crafts serve as memorable keepsakes to take home," explained Li Kaiwen, on-site staff member at the TCM Experience Hall.
In the TCM physiotherapy zone, athletes can unwind with tailored tuina massages on treatment beds, while classical Chinese Taishi armchairs flanking the area provide specialized neck and shoulder relief sessions. The facility further offers professional TCM health consultations and constitution analysis services. Practitioners employ the four diagnostic methods (observation, auscultation-olfaction, inquiry, and pulse palpation), augmented by a cutting-edge TCM diagnostic device that blends ancient wisdom with modern technology. This instrument conducts comprehensive facial and tongue assessments to accurately determine athletes' constitution types. Based on these findings, practitioners offer fully personalized regimen plans and TCM wellness recommendations.
Additionally, the TWG Village features a "Chinese Bridge" Chinese language interactive learning and experiencing area. An Xiaoning, the area's operational director, explained that this Chinese learning experience is jointly provided by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, affiliated with the Ministry of Education, and the Chengdu University for athletes. Participants can engage in calligraphy practice, select Chinese names, or learn to paint giant pandas, among other cultural activities.
